The Margaret Einspahr Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding youth volunteer each year at the annual DOVIA awards ceremony.
Margaret “Maggie” Einspahr was one of the founding members of DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) and was an elected officer to the executive board for many years. Maggie served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services.
To honor Maggie’s leadership and dedication to the field of volunteerism, the Margaret Einspahr Memorial Fund was established after her death in September 1996. The scholarship award is used to recognize an outstanding youth and their volunteer service to the community. The award is presented annually at DOVIA's annual awards ceremony. It was formerly presented at the J.C. Penney’s Golden Rule Award Luncheon and the the Volunteer Center of Sacramento’s Spirit Awards Luncheon. Maggie was a strong supporter of recognizing volunteers. She had helped to organize the Golden Rule Award Luncheon and participated in it for nine years prior to her death.
